Amy and her family

Amy and I met when our kids went to nursery school together. We’re alike in so many ways, the good ways, the ways that make you life-long friends. We both need to think out loud and talk things through to process them. We spend a lot of time discussing parenting and our kids and our relationships and trying to juggle it all and make it work.

She’s the product of a 1970’s finding yourself/EST/women’s movement/free-wheeling California upbringing and I’m from a WASP/die-hard Republican/stoic/stiff upper lip family steeped in Southern tradition, and somehow we’ve met in the middle.

This is one of my favorite sessions from this year, although I loved all of my November sessions. Maybe it’s the pale winter light, the way it slants through the trees, and the fact that it’s not so hot like it is in the summer. We just walked around enjoying the day and stopping when I saw good light. And I love it when families show up in jeans and tshirts and don’t make it into an event. When families are just being who they are and letting me capture it.
