Valentine’s Day

Hope you had a happy Valentine’s Day and were surrounded by your family and friends. It’s not that I don’t think Valentine’s Day is a manufactured holiday and that nobody should need to tell you to let your family know how much you adore them, it’s that we like to celebrate in our house. Life is short ~ anything that adds beauty and merriment and candy is welcome. It’s fun to have a bright spot in your week, something to plan and look forward to.

Yesterday we sat around the breakfast room table after school and talked and laughed and drank tea and read Valentines and ate candy and forgot about homework and tidying up the house and not snacking before dinner. Looking back, I realized that the afternoon was light and easy ~ we threw the schedule out the window, I didn’t nag, the girls didn’t argue, and it was a nice way to spend an afternoon.

And don’t you love the pink plates? They are some of my grandmother’s, either Cambridge glass or Depression glass. I have loads and loads of them and refuse to keep them locked away in the cupboard.

I’ve had the sparklers since December. I bought them at Lula Mae for New Year’s then forgot to get them out.
Lula Mae, one of my favorite shops in Pasadena.
It would probably be my favorite if they sold candy.
