August 17, Wednesday
We had to leave the house today for provisions, which for us are food and new books to read. You can see in the corner of my trunk Truth and Beauty. I am still on my Ann Patchett kick. This is the story of her friendship with the writer/poet Lucy Grealy.
I am trying to be more diligent about meal planning instead of bemoaning my fate every day at 4:00. I am a good cook and feel comfortable in the kitchen, but there’s something about that weeknight routine that makes me dig in my heels. So I’m getting serious and developing a repertoire of easy meals that I can fix when the school year begins. I have a goal of 20 “back pocket” recipes and I’m writing them down in my notebook.
My house is filled with my spiral-bound notebooks. I first started keeping a notebook when I worked in post production and had to coordinate a hundred things at once and couldn’t have anything fall through the cracks. It was the best system for writing everything down, keeping it in one spot, and being able to quickly refer back to it.
The notebooks I now I have in circulation are
Photography
Photoshop & Lightroom
Now (my daily around-the-house journal)
Writing
Becky (my Artists Way journal where I do my morning pages)
My recipes are going in my Now book.
Spaghetti and Paul Newman Marinara Sauce with green salad and fruit, you are the first on my list and will be perfect for nights when we have soccer practice.
