Pasadena Modern Dance Photos With Style

Modern dance photos are so fun to create! Pasadena modern dance photos usually have a specific look with a bright white background and bright lighting with no shadows, and if we're being honest, no visual interest. That's why I like to photograph modern dancers either with canvas backdrops or outside in natural light, or even in front of a window. If you're a dancer and need photos, let's show your personality, your zest for life! Let's show why you became a dancer in the first place. Let's capture your personality and your passion. Let's have fun! You can use your dance photos for social media and for promo materials, so they need to be engaging and not stark white and boring. If you need dance photos in Pasadena, come to Rebecca Little Photography on Green Street. When I consult with dancers, we go over wardrobe, and usually they show up with bags of leotards and shoes and skirts. Of course we need at least one tulle skirt! I also have dance appropriate wear in my studio wardrobe that's perfect for dancers. I have lightweight tea-stained skirts and diaphanous gowns and tulle skirts in silver, blue-gray, white, tea-stained and black. I have beautiful tops for dancers, from sparkly blue with ruffled sleeves, to sheer from-fitting teddies, to a pale pink sheet blouse with ruched sleeves. I have long, romantic, form-fitting dresses adorned with tulle and embroidered detailing. These dresses are lightweight and perfect for showing movement. Once we add the fan to blow the fabric and add lift to your hair, we're on our way to romantic dance portraits. Pasadena dancers have so much fun going through my wardrobe! I like to photograph dancers very wide so I can photograph all of their movements. My go to lens for dancer is a Nikon 35mm. This lets me capture a wide range of movement. Usually their arms and legs are extended and I want to document it all. Correct position is so important for dancers, so we review all of your images to make sure your feet, legs, arms and fingers are in correct dance position. Modern dancers usually bring their classic black jazz shoes or even a Capezio Pirouette shoe. The Capezio Footundeez are also cool and modern looking. Dancers are welcome to dance barefoot. I have wood floors for dancers, or I can lay down painted canvas for a dance surface. You want to have a full range of movement and not worry about slipping. For the dance movement shots, I use my strobes so we can freeze the movements. There's nothing worse than a blurry dance shot! Dancers work hard on their technique and you want your dance photos to capture it all. Please consider Rebecca Little for your dance photos. The photo studio is located at 1041 E. Green Street Pasadena, CA 91106 in historic Green Street Village.

I love working with modern dancers!

When Pasadena dancers contact me for modern dance photos, I confess my heart leaps. I grab my sketchbook and start sketching ideas for dance photos that show off their technique and passion and fun they have when dancing.

Lee Grubbs is the dancer in this photo and she has taken dance for practically her entire life. She’s also a talented makeup artist who I worked with on a dance shoot with Michelle Kolb from Lineage Dance.

Dance wardrobe is an important aspect of your dance photos.

Lee is wearing one of my studio dresses. The dress is perfect because it’s lightweight and moves so well. I have a variety of dance outfits in my studio wardrobe. If you want to go classical, I have tulle skirts in white, silver, tea-stained, black, and blue gray. I have a selection of tops that pair well with tulle skirts, including an eye-catching sheer pale pink sheer top with ruched sleeves. My wardrobe also includes an assortment of sexy form-fitting dresses, some with tulle and lace embroidery, and sparkly black pants that I call my Liza Minnelli pants.

There are beaded blouses, and sparkly tops and sheer teddies, and ruffles and feather collars. I have so many fun dance outfits to choose from.

Beyond the modern dance portrait.

When you come in for a session, we can branch out beyond dance photos. We can create elegant, fine art portraits. We can create artistic black and white photos, or light and airy lifestyle images. Dancers understand how to sit and stand gracefully. And dancers love to perform and can usually be quite natural in front of the camera.

Let’s create edgy, modern dance portraits that go beyond the traditional. We can wrap you in fabric and create something avant-garde. We can play with posing and dramatic lighting. Let’s find stunning barren landscapes for one-of-a-kind imagery, or walls of flowers for dreamy, romantic images.
