I love working with modern dancers!
When Pasadena dancers contact me for modern dance photos, I confess my heart leaps. I grab my sketchbook and start sketching ideas for dance photos that show off their technique and passion and fun they have when dancing.
Lee Grubbs is the dancer in this photo and she has taken dance for practically her entire life. She’s also a talented makeup artist who I worked with on a dance shoot with Michelle Kolb from Lineage Dance.
Dance wardrobe is an important aspect of your dance photos.
Lee is wearing one of my studio dresses. The dress is perfect because it’s lightweight and moves so well. I have a variety of dance outfits in my studio wardrobe. If you want to go classical, I have tulle skirts in white, silver, tea-stained, black, and blue gray. I have a selection of tops that pair well with tulle skirts, including an eye-catching sheer pale pink sheer top with ruched sleeves. My wardrobe also includes an assortment of sexy form-fitting dresses, some with tulle and lace embroidery, and sparkly black pants that I call my Liza Minnelli pants.
There are beaded blouses, and sparkly tops and sheer teddies, and ruffles and feather collars. I have so many fun dance outfits to choose from.
Beyond the modern dance portrait.
When you come in for a session, we can branch out beyond dance photos. We can create elegant, fine art portraits. We can create artistic black and white photos, or light and airy lifestyle images. Dancers understand how to sit and stand gracefully. And dancers love to perform and can usually be quite natural in front of the camera.
Let’s create edgy, modern dance portraits that go beyond the traditional. We can wrap you in fabric and create something avant-garde. We can play with posing and dramatic lighting. Let’s find stunning barren landscapes for one-of-a-kind imagery, or walls of flowers for dreamy, romantic images.
